.Take a look and you'll be amazed how
easy self hypnosis is!
Hypnosis is one of those practises which has suffered somewhat from a rather esoteric reputation. In all kinds of fictional depictions, hypnosis is treated as if it is some fantastical power of mind control, intensity or strength of will not accessible to most of us mere mortals. More than that, hypnosis is presented almost as a kind of magic, and a dangerous and powerful magic at that.
Of course, I exaggerate somewhat, but I'm sure you'll agree that this notion of hypnosis is part of how it's portrayed in popular culture. That's a shame, as hypnosis is now a well-understood process, which has been scientifically proven to have lasting medical and psychological benefits. It's also a simple set of techniques which, can be practised by anyone with the right attitude and a quiet hour to spare.
Here's a quick self-hypnosis script anyone can use:
1: find a place where you will have at least half an hour of peace and quiet. Sit comfortably, or lie down if you prefer.
2: close your eyes, and calm your mind, letting stressful thoughts just drift away. As you do this, begin to feel the tensions in your muscles, and start to tense and then relax each area of your body in turn. Imagine the tension being released and flowing down your body and away.
3: begin to take slow, full, regular breaths. Once again, imagine tension and anxiety leaving the body as you exhale.
4: be aware of how relaxed you are, and start to visualise a situation where you are moving downwards. This could be anything, but let's imagine you are floating on the surface of a vast, warm, calm, sea. Now imagine yourself floating down towards the bottom, making yourself feel the flow of water around your body, as you picture as clearly and calmly as you can your journey down to the sea bed.
5: As you reach the sea bed in your visualisation, you should let your awareness of the outside world just drift away, leaving nothing but a feeling of floating. You are utterly at peace as you feel this, and are deep within the hypnotic state, exploring the sea bed.
6: Imagine yourself exploring the sea bed, and finding something- a box, or treasure chest, lying on the bottom of the sea. Picture yourself opening it, and as you do so, narrate to yourself the affirmations and suggestions you wish to adopt, for example- 'I feel calm and powerful, in control of my circumstances. I feel confident in my dealings with people' and as you do so, imagine that in the box is a cloud of gold dust, which swirls up in the water as you open it and coats you. Tell yourself 'this cloud of dust is my confidence becoming part of me.' repeat this at least three times with different 'treasure chests' you find on the sea bed, each time visualising, narrating, and feeling a sense of power flowing into you.
7: when you have finished this, picture yourself leaving the sea bed and slowly swimming back upwards, in stages, with the pressure of the water gradually lessening as you ascend. Feel your awareness of the outside world slowly returning as you do so.
8: As you emerge from the sea, feel the spell break, so to speak, but keep your eyes closed. Feel how relaxed you are, and how you carry the affirmations you found on the sea bed with you, and enjoy that sensation, before you finally open your eyes,
